Born as the eldest child in Jakarta on May 3, 1975, into a family living with very little — a 5×5 meter room with no yard, no separate kitchen, no private bathroom. From those humble circumstances came many lessons that would later shape the character of Thamrin.

Growing up in Larangan Indah, Ciledug — a neighbourhood that was then mostly marshland and sparsely populated — Thamrin found himself. He discovered community life, friendships, and became a spirited, adventurous kid. From that environment he grew into a principled person who could not easily be swayed.

In high school, his business instincts began to sharpen — not out of ambition, but out of necessity. To have pocket money for school, he busked with friends in the streets. From that experience, the seed of entrepreneurship began to grow.

In 2008, Thamrin founded Mainan Kayu in Serpong with one conviction: that quality wooden products from Indonesia could become a source of national pride — while at the same time moving the local craftsmen's economy forward.
